The film shootings began at the research trip to Eritrea in June 2010 and continued in September when the Director-General of Eritrean Railways together with his chief engineer and foreman visited Denmark to receive a donation of outdated DSB railway equipment. In December 2010 two Mærsk containers loaded with the equipment arrived in Eritrea. The Copenhagen Film Crew was waiting in the harbor and followed the two 20 feet containers on their way to Asmara. The train ride itself was something of a feat; At the Eritrean railway workshop the
men had worked for months to construct railway wagons that could carry the two containers. Now they must stand the test through 30 narrow tunnels and on plateaus cut in the vertical mountain walls. Does René, the originator of the project, even know why he initiated it? Is it the idealist who wishes to help a poor country or is it the train enthusiast who wants to see one of the most beautiful railways of the world back on track. Having launched the project the problems all pile up at René’s desk! Will the aid project have a happy ending?
