PALM OIL IN THE LAND OF ORANGUTANS
Work in Progress
For many years the palm oil industry has been considered one of our biggest environmental sinners because of its extensive use of pesticides and its slash and burn practices used for clearing large areas of the rain forest. In his documentary, Palm Oil in the Land of Orangutans, director, Dan Säll, will follow the significant redirection of production methods taken on by one of the world’s biggest palm oil plantations, United Plantations, in Malaysia. Engaging in a unique partnership with the Copenhagen Zoo, the company has taken a significant and crucial step towards an environmentally sustainable extraction of palm oil, bio diversity and conservation of the rain forest.
